Amsterdam NSDM

We love to go visit friends who live in different cities. Besides spending time with your beloved ones, you relax, chat, eat, drink and get around the city, experiencing the coolest places. This was definitely one of those weekends... Funny enough, we all had heard of the industrial area called AmDock at NSDM before. Yet none of us had ever been there but we all were excited to get to know this area, so we decided to take a look.

We are fascinated by the magnitude and rawness of industrial spaces, it always has a really inspiring impact – all the different materials, colours and elements coming together. This former shipyard building has been repurposed into a thriving creative community and the area around is influenced by hippiesque coffee places, art, Greenpeace activists, the crane hotel and people who enjoy their life.

Can you believe that Amsterdam's largest skate park is integrated into this old ship yard? It is kind of hanging under the roof in a wooden-metal constellation, how cool. Total cost for this skate park was 1,3 million Euros, mostly covered by the city of Amsterdam. Any questions?

Everything still seems to be kind of "for people who know", at least the places are not crowded and the people who are around seem to be as laid back as the area itself. Places like this are so charming and full of energy, too sad everything in Düsseldorf that was at least a little comparable was closed and torn down.

We really felt stoked by this place and enjoyed a brilliant Sunday.
